MetroSouth Medical Center Offers Complimentary Seminar for Women Contemplating Pregnancy

MetroSouth Medical Center invites women contemplating pregnancy to join them Tuesday, May 11th, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., in the lobby of the hospital for a light dinner and educational program about planning for pregnancy.  The hospital is located at 12935 S. Gregory Street in Blue Island.

The “Pregnancy Prep” program will feature leading medical experts sharing tips about diet, exercise, and other pre-conception concerns. In addition, a fertility specialist will discuss the right time to seek help and the first lines of defense in dealing with infertility.  All attendees will receive a complimentary gift and an opportunity to schedule a free pre-conception consultation with an obstetrician.

“We want to educate women about the importance of monitoring their health, knowing their genetic history, and if necessary, making lifestyle changes before becoming a mother,” explains Dr. Lewis Blumenthal, Chairman of MetroSouth Medical Center’s Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN).  “It is important for a woman to be at her optimal weight and to quit smoking and/or excessive drinking, because it can impact success in getting pregnant.  And, as everyone knows, a healthy pregnancy almost always means a healthy baby.”

Today’s active women are careful planners about many things, including when they choose to become pregnant.  In addition, women are working longer in their careers and getting married and having children later than in the past.  According to recent research, one in five women delay their first pregnancy until age 35.

Women of all ages who are interested in getting pregnant will benefit from this program. Spouses and extended family members are welcome too. To register for this free event, call 708-489-7927.   Space is limited.

MetroSouth Medical Center’s Family Birth Place, where more than 1,500 babies are born each year, features a full team of board-certified neonatologists, obstetricians, family practice physicians, certified nurse midwives and nurses specializing in advanced fetal monitoring.  MetroSouth Medical Center also employs skilled specialists for high-risk patients, including the only bilingual team of Maternal Fetal Medicine OB/GYN physicians in the Southland, and perhaps in the Chicago area.
