Carotid artery stenosis is the cause of 20- 30% of all strokes. Early identification of patients with carotid artery stenosis, is critical in reducing the incidence of stroke in the United States. Patients particularly at risk include smokers, diabetics, those with high blood pressure, as well as those with a history of cerebrovascular disease, such as peripheral artery disease or coronary artery disease.
