Attendees were treated to entertainment by NBC5’s Andy Avalos and WCIU’s Jeanne Sparrow along with a local DJ. Area restaurants showcased heart-friendly entrees and MetroSouth Medical Center supplied corresponding recipe cards. MetroSouth Medical Center CEO and Chief Medical Officer, Enrique Beckmann, MD, Ph.D., kicked off the festivities by welcoming everyone to MetroSouth and underscoring the importance the organization places on taking a leadership role in the heart health of the surrounding communities.
By the end of the day nearly 150 people had undergone a screening and received their HeartScore, which included blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose and body mass index readings. Healthy ranges were provided to help those screened determine if they were at risk.
Robert Iaffaldano, MD, interventional cardiologist, participated in the program by answering clinical questions for those getting screened and demystifing the role elevated blood pressure, cholesterol, and glucose readings have in heart disease.
