Dr. Mario Piverger Returns From Haiti

Dr. Yves-Mario Piverger lived in Haiti’s capital city, Port-au-Prince, for eight years during his childhood. Because of his ability to speak French, Creole and Spanish and his profession as a family medicine physician with a specialty in obstetrics, he worked around the clock during a two week mission following the recent earthquake.

Immediately upon arrival, he delivered a baby in a stockroom. Over the course of his visit, he delivered seven babies. A diabetic patient died before his eyes because there was no insulin to give her. He brought more than 400 pounds of supplies and traveled from house to house caring for wounds and handing out antibiotic ointment. Dr. Piverger says there is a huge need for primary care services in Haiti. He plans to go back soon and implement his mobile medical unit.
